For Compost Optimization and In-barn Use
- For Dry Manure and Compost: stimulates an accelerated aerobic decomposition process, reduces odor and other nuisances and produces more nutrient rich humus
- On Livestock Bedding, in Poultry Barns and Stables: acts as a conditioner to improve barn conditions by reducing ammonia and insects, supporting disease suppression and decomposition of poultry/livestock fecal matter and litter/bedding
* Penergetic k ULTRA for poultry barns and Penergetic k for compost are OMRI-listed, therefore suitable for organic, transitional and conventional methods of agriculture.

BENEFITS
Composting
- Activates accelerated composting by an aerobic process
- Suitable for all manner of compostable materials (e.g. solid manure, plant matter, municipal waste stream)
- Reduces insect pest problems and odors associated with composting
- Limits loss of nutrients (e.g. nitrogen) during composting process
- Contributes to elimination of weed seeds and pathogenic organisms
- Produces more homogeneously consistent nutrient rich humus
- Assists in regulating temperature during composting
- Helps propagate healthy soil fungi and reduces detrimental fungi
- Proven effective at decomposing dead animals
- By promoting a more complete breakdown of manure, helps prevent nutrient overload on fields
- Proven and cost effective approach to composting

Barns and Stables
- Controls odor in poultry barns and livestock housing
- Reduces flies and other insects in poultry barns and livestock stalls
- Converts problematic ammonia in livestock manure/urine to beneficial ammonium
- Supports conversion of hydrogen sulfide (from animal wastes) to plant available sulfur
- Supports control of pathogens
- Control dust and reduces wetness in bedding
- In poultry barns, helps with mitigation of darkling beetles
- Overcomes problems associated with lime (used in back of stalls) as not dusty and won’t fill grooves in flooring
- Initiates compost activation process in soiled poultry litter / livestock bedding
PRODUCT TYPES
Penergetic k (extra fine) – for compost
Penergetic k ULTRA – for poultry barns
PRODUCT TYPES/CARRIER
Penergetic k (extra fine) – for compost
17.6 lbs. (8.0 kg) extra fine bentonite
Penergetic k ULTRA – for poultry barns
13.2 lb. (6.0 kg) ultra fine bentonite

APPLICATION
In Compost and Solid Manure
Application Rate: 1 to 2 oz. per cu. yd. of manure* or compost
Note: the higher the rate of application the faster and more complete the composting
process is.
* (On average) 1.0 ton of cow manure = 1 cu. yd.

Dry:
Penergetic k (for compost) can be applied separately. Alternatively, can be premix with rock meal, sawdust or similar substances as a bulking agent. Due to the small quantities applied, this latter option is one means of permitting a more uniform and accurate application, although experience has shown that this is not critical in achieving satisfactory composting results.

Wet:
Mix penergetic k for compost into water and leave for a while. Re-stir and apply evenly with spray applicator (large quantity) or watering can (small quantity).

Ideally, apply penergetic k evenly onto the compost layers. In the case of a static (stationary) pile that is not to be turned, poke several holes into the pile or windrow and pour Penergetic k into the pile via these holes.
Penergetic k can also be applied (dry or wet) while turning the compost piles or windrows.
Although Penergetic k will work well even if the pile is not turned, for maximum effectiveness follow good composting practices, including: monitoring temperature; regularly turning the pile or windrows; and, covering with breathable fleece to regulate moisture flow (in and out) and prevent weed seeds from infesting the compost pile.

In Barns and Stables
Application rates will vary depending on age of barn; earthen or concrete floor; frequency that litter/bedding changed; length of time between use of penergetic k (for poultry barn); frequency of penergetic k usage; other products used (if any); and, other site specific considerations.
The following rates are suggestive, yet to best determine an appropriate application rate an on-site evaluation should be conducted.
Spray penergetic k (for poultry barns) at the following intervals and rates:
a) APPLICATION ON BARN FLOOR
After removing used bedding/litter and before applying new bedding/litter, apply penergetic k (for poultry barns) at a rate of 20 to 24 oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. to the earthen or concrete floor.
i) In cases where the litter is completely removed between cycles of new birds, penergetic k (for poultry barns) should be applied on the barn floor at least every 12 months.
ii) In cases where the bedding/litter is not completely removed between cycles of new birds, the floor application rate should be applied at least every six months – and in such cases the application quantity may be combined with and applied at the same time as the application on the bedding/litter (referenced below).
b) APPLICATION ON BEDDING/LITTER
Once the new bedding/litter has been spread, apply penergetic k (for poultry barns) at a rate of 16 to 20 oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. on the litter/bedding per cycle (prior to the new birds being moved into barn).
Optional: a higher rate of penergetic k (for poultry barns) may be applied in the vicinity of the drinkers and feed stations and along the building perimeter.
As an alternatively to spray application, penergetic k (for poultry barns) can be applied dry and/or mixed with the fresh litter prior to the litter being spread in the barn.

In dairy barns (and livestock pack barns)
Use penergetic k for compost (extra fine)
- In back of stalls: 1 lb. per 100 stalls/weekly (or 5 grams per stall/week)
- In calf pens/hutches and bedding pack:
i) Initial application (on floor) – 12.0 to 22.0 oz. / 1,000 sq. ft.
ii) Subsequent application (on bedding) 4.0 to 6.0 oz. / 100 LSUs / weekly
** To increase ease of application in dairy operations, penergetic k can be mixed with any absorbant, non-slip material to bulk it up [Example: at a rate of 1:20 [1.0 lb. of penergetic k to 20 lbs. of bulking agent]
The above application schedules are suggestive. For specific details as to the appropriate application rate in your operations contact a Penergetic distributor or dealer.
With Penergetic k use for composting and/or in barn use – “more is better” and produces more results.
Municipal and Commercial-scale Composting Operations
Penergetic k is a great addition to a commercial or municipal composting operations, by:
- Reducing on-site composting time
- Accelerating the throughput of compostable material through the yard (thereby reducing total land area required for the composting area and/or permitting greater volume of material to be handled/composted per unit of space)
- Increasing nutrient quality, texture and grade of resultant compost material
- Plus, realizing all the other (general) benefits associated with composting with Penergetic k
